Jules Verne (1828–1905) was a French novelist, poet, and playwright. He grew up in the port town of Nantes where his interest in travel began. While at school, he began writing short stories and poetry.
After finishing law school in Paris, he stayed on to meet other writers and visit Parisian theatres. In 1852, he began working at the Théâtre-Lyrique, writing and producing plays there.
After he married, in 1857, he worked for time as a stockbroker, but he continued writing. Then, he began his series of adventure novels. They made him famous as the ‘Father of Science Fiction’.
